Hello my mind, body, and breath friends. My name is Dr. Justin Ternes, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Breathwork Specialist and Mindset and Performance Coach.
I was born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas - a cute and quaint town perched up in the hills of the Ozark Mountains. From an early age, I had a strong fascination of life, movement, spirit, health, community, and wellness.
Throughout my childhood and into adulthood, this fascination has only strengthened and sharpened.
As I explored the best route to combine my interests in mind, body, and movement, I found Physical Therapy to best the idea profession. Little did I know that alternative approaches to mental, physical, and emotional health would change my life. Breathwork, Ice Baths, Men's Groups, Plant Medicine... these practices have shaped the way I now see the world, and I couldn't be happier. I am also deeply grateful that research and science continues to validate these teachings.

I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and went on to obtain my Doctorate from Franklin Pierce University in Manchester, New Hampshire - located in the greater-Boston area.
A final internship brought me to the West Coast - North County San Diego, where I took my first job in an outpatient orthopedic setting.
It was here, in Encinitas, CA that my practice evolved to include mindfulness, breathwork, and stress-reduction. Inspired by the likes of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wim Hof, Lorimer Mosely, Brian Mackenzie, Dr. Jon Frederickson, and many more powerful thought leaders in the space.
As I began to focus on my personal health and human optimization, I discovered that utilizing tools like breathwork, mindset training, emotional well-being, and meditation significantly enhanced the level of care I provide to my patients.
This led to the birth of True Self Health & Human Performance, where my practice evolved to offer Mind/Body/Breath Mindset & Performance coaching in addition to my work as a Physiotherapist.
I now lead multiple weekly online and in-person workshops and events, including breathwork sessions, ice bath experiences, and men's groups.
During my spare time, I immerse myself in the world of human health and optimization. I'm always seeking out new information to better serve my clients and the broader community.
And when I have recreational time to spare, you'll find me outdoors—surfing, hiking, practicing breathwork and meditation, and indulging in my first love, basketball.
